Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have become an integral part of modern technology, enabling a wide range of applications from environmental monitoring to military surveillance. However, these networks face significant challenges in terms of energy consumption and security. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of secure and energy-efficient clustering techniques in WSNs. We explore various clustering algorithms designed to enhance energy efficiency and prolong network lifetime, while also addressing security concerns that are critical for the reliable operation of WSNs. The survey covers fundamental clustering methodologies, highlights recent advancements, and discusses their effectiveness in different scenarios. Additionally, we analyze the trade-offs between security and energy efficiency, providing insights into the design of robust clustering protocols. Our findings aim to guide future research directions and the development of more sophisticated clustering techniques that can meet the dual requirements of security and energy efficiency in WSNs.
