Meta-Analytic Insights into the Efficacy of Digital and Traditional Data Collection Methods

Abstract

This meta-analytic study examines the efficacy of digital versus traditional data collection methods across various fields of research. The growing prevalence of digital data collection tools, such as online surveys and electronic health records, has raised questions about their comparative effectiveness and reliability relative to traditional methods like paper-based surveys and face-to-face interviews. By aggregating data from numerous studies conducted before 2019, this analysis evaluates the validity, reliability, response rates, and overall data quality of these methods. The findings highlight that while digital methods offer significant advantages in terms of convenience and cost-efficiency, traditional methods still maintain superior response rates and depth of information in certain contexts. This study provides comprehensive insights into the strengths and limitations of each approach, guiding researchers in selecting the most appropriate data collection method for their specific needs.
