Abstract

The migration of legacy data warehouses to cloud-based solutions presents significant opportunities for enhanced scalability, flexibility, and cost-efficiency. However, this transition is accompanied by a series of challenges that require careful management. This paper explores the key aspects of migrating from traditional data warehouses to cloud-based systems, focusing on ten critical areas: understanding migration drivers, evaluating cloud service models, assessing legacy system readiness, planning and executing the migration strategy, ensuring data security and compliance, handling data integration and transformation, testing and validating the new system, training and supporting users, and fostering continuous improvement and optimization. Each area is examined in detail, offering insights into best practices and strategies to overcome common obstacles. The discussion includes practical recommendations for effective planning, execution, and post-migration management, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive training, ongoing support, and continuous system optimization. By addressing these aspects, organizations can achieve a successful migration, leveraging the benefits of cloud technology while minimizing risks and ensuring a smooth transition from legacy systems. This paper provides a framework for navigating the complexities of cloud migration and maximizing the value derived from modern data management solutions.
